Become Something More
February marks a new beginning for
Face Your Fears Athletics. We are no longer an officially registered CrossFit Affiliate. This was
a decision that was not easily arrived upon, but one that was necessary
for our gym to continue to evolve and grow.
The decision to drop the name was made for a few reasons. First, CrossFit
has gotten an enormous amount of people more involved in physical fitness
and has created a wonderful sense of community. That being said, with
the good, also comes the bad. The common misconception is that all CrossFit’s
are the same and that CrossFit = injury. I’ve been doing CrossFit
since 2007-8 and have seen it become what it is today. During this time
I have learned so much about new ways of training, different formats &
emphasis on standards, along with the effectiveness and safety of different programs.
When it really boiled down to it, I felt the brand of “CrossFit”
was truly hiding what our gym has become about. Our Mission as a gym and
my goal as a coach is to provide high quality, goal oriented, SAFE, training
that gets results. Not a quick fix, but a conscious choice to make being
fit, healthy and setting higher standards a way of life. While I will
be forever indebted to CrossFit for what it has taught me, both as an
individual and as a coach, it is time to evolve, to move on.
Second, while we still do incorporate some CrossFit elements, our programming,
for the most part, is quite different from your average Box. There is
a structure, there is a rhyme & reason to everything we do here. We
train with a purpose, to measure your results against the standards. Not
a circuit workout that you sacrificed movement on, in order to get a better
score or time. I could care less about score & time. If you didn’t
do the workout right, then you didn’t do it with the purpose of
changing you, both mentally & physically. Progress, when training
for both aesthetics & performance, is about victories in accomplishment
of your goals. Using your old workout weight as a warmup, using less or
no bands for pull ups or running the entire mile. We compete against who
we used to be and look ahead to who we strive to become... fearless. To
be a crusher of goals, an athlete that will have the will to push through
and the humility to push others to continue on even after they’re done.
As many of you are already well aware, we are unique, not just in our class
offerings and programming, but in the dynamics of our gym and its members.
It is a humbling experience to watch the relationships that are formed
right in front of my eyes. To see the camaraderie between members and
the complete lack of judgment about one another is awe inspiring.
Face Your Fears Athletics is a one of a kind place that truly needed a
one of a kind name. Your continued support and commitment to this place,
my dream, means more to me than I will ever be able to rightfully express.
Thank you for continuing to trust me and come along on this journey as
we evolve into something more.

Over 100 Pounds Lost in the RP Challenge!
Since Monday, January 18, over 20 members of FYFA have been undergoing
the 90-day RP Challenge.
The RP diet is a diet intended to help athletes either reduce their body-fat
percentage or increase muscle mass, all while fueling their workouts (and
never starving themselves). Our challenge-takers eat 4-6 times a day and
their meals are based around the time they work out, as well as the intensity
level of their workouts.
Collectively, our RP Challenge members have lost more than 100 pounds over
the first 3 weeks! We are incredibly proud of the dedication and commitment
of these individuals and look forward to updating everyone on their progress.
The final weigh-in will be on April 16. The winners will be decided based
on a number of factors—including total weight-loss, physical transformation,
and improved performance in the gym.
Stay tuned for more updates!
